Yes. "Work equipment" under PUWER, is described broadly as any machinery, appliance, apparatus, or tool for use at work, including items employees provide for themselves. As a rule of thumb, our assessors stick to equipment which has powered aspects (this can range from electricity to pneumatics/hydraulics to human power) or equipment which uses hazardous energy at some point during the process. Different projects take different amounts of time and can also incur downtime. PUWER assessments tend to be less invasive and our experts will work with your team to investigate whether there are any non-compliances, whilst a full safety system upgrade and installation may require your machinery to be down for an alotted period of time. Safety can take time, but it is worth it.
Low probability doesn't mean low risk. If it hasn't happened before that doesn't mean it hasn't come close to it. The consequences could be catastrophic for your business: Directors can be personally held liable for serious accidents and an incident may require reparations and fines to be paid potentially bankrupting the business. Having the insurance of an assessment being completed or safety system installed is the prevention you need.
This depends on a number of factors: size of equipment, if a machine is running or not, number of non-compliances found on a machine, whether you have documentation ready for us etc.
ISS Safety are proud to state that 100% of our installations are certified and compliant, completed by qualified engineers. Sometimes things go wrong, it is the nature of machinery. We hold a 1-year warranty for all projects and will cover any issues relating to the equipment which was provided by ISS Safety.
You can - we will provide a comprehensive PUWER assessment and report detailing all non-compliances. But by completing the work yourself, you are missing out on your own peace of mind if the alternative company does not follow best practises and current Standards. However, we can certify and sign-off external remedial work post-installation if required.
